Surfing in the Caroline Islands

One of the most incredible newly discovered surf destinations, the Caroline Islands that is located in the Micronesia, is now on offer. The 200 chain of islands offers a real culture shock with different language on each to be found. The surf on these islands is suited for intermediate and above only.

Almost all the surf breaks are located one to two miles off shore, on the island reef passes, very similar to the set ups you see in Tahiti. The only way to get to the surf is by boat. Caroline Islands gathers swell produced by the North Pacific winter storms, and by the Western Pacific typhoons from October to May.

The East and West sides of the island have different passes but by far the most consistent surf occurs on the North West side . The main break, P-Pass is a world class right. Very fast and hollow a full on barrel wave. This wave is located 25 minutes away from the camp by boat. On medium and high tides there is plenty water on the reef and lower tides can be surfed with caution. The predominant winds here are side and off shore. The swell wraps around the reef at P-Pass, combined with the trade winds make this wave the place we surf on most of the days. P-Pass is so good that you don't want to go anywhere else. A very perfect and rip able wave to about 6 feet, above that size you enter another level of surfing.

The Caroline Islands besides a new amazing surf island have many large waterfalls, long mangroves channels that will remind you of a water maze, ancient ruins the size of Dover Castle, very clear water for snorkelling, incredible fishing, good restaurants and bars located on the mountains where you can sit and relax, have a beer and see a beautiful sunset over the barrier reef.

Pure Vacations and their partner companies are the first and only operation in The Caroline Island Group with having surfers in mind. Their Surf Guides have been surfing these waves since 2000 by themselves!!!

The Surf Camp accommodation is modest and very functional bungalows situated less than 50 feet from the waters edge. Each bungalow is equipped with running hot and cold water, three beds (two water beds and one queen size bed). The rooms are complete with air conditioning, fans and a spacious balcony to watch the sunset or check the surf from. All of the bungalows are made from local mangrove wood and have local wicker bamboo furniture. There is ample room inside to store your boards and fishing gear. Rooms are cleaned daily and are supplied with fresh towels. You'll fall asleep at night listening to thunder showers and awakening to mornings of dead calm breezes and the rumble of surf out on the outer reef.

The surf camp is ideally situated 500 yards from the airport, steps to main restaurant Misko's and even fewer steps to the bar "Déjà Vu and its own small dock. From the dock you'll typically enjoy phenomenal sunsets with drinks in hand and a warm breeze coupled with island tunes filtering in from the bar. Another perk of the camp is that in less than a half hour from your plane landing we can have you in the boat and on your way to surfing. Be ready to surf as soon as you get here!

If you are looking for a tropical destination, with quality surf, a really amazing adventure and experience then you must visit the Caroline Islands.
